Am I too old to wear this?
Almost always no, and it's never really about age. It's about fit, fabric and where the hem sits.

The new book by Diane Hollis
For twenty-five years I helped women see themselves again. Then I lost my husband and had to do it for myself. This book is everything I learned on both sides of that: how to look like yourself again, and how to build a life that's yours, family, home, money and all.

For every woman who's been told she's had her turn.

Twenty-five years of questions
A few were about a hem. Most were about something bigger. Here's the short version of my answer. The long version is in the book.
Am I too old to wear this?
Almost always no, and it's never really about age. It's about fit, fabric and where the hem sits.
The Closet · Ch. 1
I'm on my own now. Where do I even start?
With one small thing that's only for you. Mine was setting the table for one, properly, with the good plates.
Your Own Company · Ch. 4
Should I let my hair go gray?
Only you know that. But if you do, the right cut and the right colors next to your face make all the difference. I let mine go and kept one streak.
The Mirror · Ch. 2
He retired, and now he's home all day.
Give him a job, keep one room that's yours, and talk about it before it turns into a fight.
Your People · Ch. 1
How do I look put together without spending a fortune?
Fit first, fabric second, price last. The women who looked richest in my shop rarely spent the most.
The Closet · Ch. 9
He always handled the money. Now it's me.
Start with one list: what comes in, what goes out, and what's paid automatically. You don't have to understand everything this week.
Your Money, Your Way · Ch. 3

Part One
What twenty-five years of dressing women taught me.
Part Two
My own life, after the shop closed.

Who's writing
For twenty-five years I ran a small women's clothing shop on Main Street. I dressed mothers of the bride and new widows, teachers on their first day back, and plenty of women who'd just been told, one way or another, that they were too old for something.
Then I lost my husband at fifty-seven, and the year after, I lost a bit of myself too. I stopped dressing up. I stopped going out. Finding my way back took longer than I'd like to admit, and it taught me the second half of this book.
I'm sixty-two now. I'm not done yet, and neither are you.

No. The first half is style: colors, fit, hair, makeup and manners. The second half is life: living on your own, family, your home, money, and starting again.
It's an e-book, not a physical book. The PDF prints beautifully at home or at any print shop, a chapter at a time or the whole thing.
Yes. Most of the book is for any woman past sixty, and there's a whole chapter on him retiring and suddenly being home all day.
